The Bad Hole Yardage Book: Electric Finish
Electric Finish
“This closing par 5 features an “electric” finish for golfers of all skill levels. The tee shot demands a long enough shot to carry the lake, but a low enough trajectory to avoid the iconic power lines that service this 500-home cookie cutter community.
The better players may try their luck at powering one through the small gaps in the lines, but don’t be shocked when you hear your ball ping off of one, jolting it out of play. Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Ben Hogan, Gary Player. These are just some of golf’s biggest names who have never successfully made it through the power lines on this well-designed hole*.
Once you safely cross the water, take a moment to stare at this magnificent tower, thinking back to all of the perfectly-struck tee shots that were unfairly Mutumbo’d back into the water. Then have your picture taken in front of the tower by our on-course photographer so you can feel energized by this moment for years to come.
All photos available in the golf shop after the round, but don’t worry… they’re free of charge.
A word from the designer
“From the moment I laid eyes on the property, I knew this would be our signature hole. I’ve read everything there is to read about the game’s origins, so any chance you get to involve power lines, you must take advantage. I’m a big believer in two things: 1) using the natural features that the land provides you, and 2) punishing really good golf shots. The fact that we were able to pull off both of those in one hole is beyond my wildest expectations. I couldn’t help but feel Alister MacKenzie’s spirit smiling down on us as we laid sod around the base of the power pole.”
